The Link also develops several prototypes each year to demonstrate the latest technology advances. The Link commercial team constantly evaluates all research outcomes and takes appropriate measures to both protect and exploit arising Intellectual Property;

Masterclasses
The Link currently runs three exclusive CEO Master Classes annually. Each is hosted by a key Silicon Valley personality and is held in a traditional boardroom. Master Classes are invitation-only gatherings restricted to 20 senior directors of innovative technology companies. For more information please click here ;

Hi-tech entrepreneurship courses
As part of its remit to create a more entrepreneurial culture among University of Edinburgh (UoE) students and staff, the Link has launched two annual hi-tech entrepreneurship courses, inspired by Stanford’s Technology Ventures Programme. Each class features at least one member of the Scottish or Silicon Valley business community, along with lecturers from the Link, Stanford University or London Business School. Topics covered include market research, funding and pitching. For further details, please see www.tech-entrepreneur.org

Industrial placements
The Link actively engages with partner companies to suggest research ideas for student projects (primarily summer projects for Informatics students on various MSc courses). Research visits, including extended visits and sabbaticals, and longer industrial placements for both students and staff can all be arranged through the Link.

Promotion in the USA
The Link actively utilises its network of Silicon Valley contacts to help promote partner companies in the US market. Selling into the US market is a must for any technology company that wants to compete on the world stage. See AffectiveMedia case study ;

R&D strategic advice
The Link offers strategic R&D advice to companies of all sizes to help them understand which technologies are relevant to their sector and aids in the development of an innovation strategy specific for each company. This usually includes help accessing various research funding initiatives, such as those offered by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Scottish Enterprise (SE).
