The Industry Launch of the Edinburgh-Stanford Link took place on 10th October 2003.
Jim Wallace, Deputy First Minister and Minister for Enterprise opened the event held at The Chancellor's Building, University of Edinburgh Medical School (next to the new Royal Infirmary).
The Launch Conference was aimed at academics, industrialists, venture capitalists and business representatives from key national and international organisations.
Distinguished keynote speakers included Greg Papadopoulos , Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Sun Microsystems, Inc. Other speakers included directors from several Scotland and Silicon Valley-based technology companies that are either working with the Link already, or have experience using language technology to create competitive advantage.
The launch day brought together some of the world's leading authorities from business and academia from both sides of the Atlantic. The day was designed to be interactive, informative and, most importantly, relevant to business. In addition to hearing world-class speakers, delegates had the opportunity to view demonstrations of the latest speech and language applications, and to hear how companies in Scotland are already working with the research teams.
