accessing our research

Link partners gain access to not only Link-funded research, but also to all Human Computer Interaction (HCI) research at the University of Edinburgh. Specifically, your business can access our research expertise in one of four ways:

Students projects
Student projects are an excellent first step to working with the Link. Companies can suggest research topics for either a 3 month MSc student project, or 9 month fourth year project. Such projects benefit both the students, who gain real-life experience, and the company, who benefit from the dedicated resource at very low cost.

Collaborative research
Collaboration partners gain risk-free insight into areas of research that may benefit their company. In return, we usually ask partners to provide data for testing and offer us the benefit of their sector knowledge in evaluating the impact of new technologies. If partners regard the research output as relevant, they can negotiate a license.

Consulting
Through consulting agreements, researchers can advise your company on state- of-the-art expertise and systems. Consulting projects vary in time from a few days to several months, and typically are part of a package that involves the licensing of our intellectual property, along with training.

Contract research
Contract research enables companies and organisations to engage some of the best research expertise in the world to work on problems and topics specific to them. In some circumstances, companies or organisations sponsoring the research can agree exclusive exploitation rights to new intellectual property generated from that project.
